Puppy supply list
Crates
Crates are approximate sizes and vary between brands. Choose crates that will allow them to feel comfortable, move around, but NOT enough space that they can potty in one side and hang out in the other. Once a pup is full grown and has good habits, they will be fine in a larger crate even with extra space. (length x width x height)
Small: 19”x 13” x 11” (Usually up to 10-15lbs)
8-16 weeks old
Medium: 23”x16”x15” (Usually up to 25lbs)
12-24 weeks old
Large: 36”x22”x23” (Usually up to 45-50lbs)
24-52 weeks old
X-Large: 42”x28”x28” (Usually up to 75lbs)
Full grown, around 52 weeks old. This crate is large enough for a larger standard poodle to stand up in and have plenty of space to change positions. Two standard poodles can fit in a crate this size.

Expandable Crate
- This allows you to purchase a crate that is full size, and has a divider in between so that you can change the size as the puppy grows. Like this one here:
- Crate Mat: Many people like a soft mat to put inside their puppy’s crate. I recommend getting pet beds that they won’t ever become ‘bored’ with and chew up. Some like to use a towel or a simpler mat in their crates and a fluffier, softer bed outside of their crate for resting.
- Floor Cushion: Many like to have a designated place where pup can hang out and rest comfortably. Some people like a washable simple rug for this.
- ‘Dog’ Towels -- you will want some designated rags or dog towels that you want to use for various ‘messy’ tasks. Bathing, accidents, traveling, etc.
- MinkyPup Blankets My niece has started making the most adorable, SOFT, amazing puppy blankets! The dogs love these so much that they’ll never try to steal YOURS! These can be personalized as well! To see these options, send me a message!
- Look for dishes that are durable and will not spill when the pup puts their paw on the side of it. Bowls should be placed on the floor and not raised up.
- Food bowl - If you have a pup or adult that loves to SCARF their food down, these are some excellent choices to help pup SLOW DOWN and feel more satiated. These can also help them be less bored and have to work harder to get it. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=slow+feeder+dog+bowls&ref=nb_sb_noss_2
- Water bowl(s) (Metal or plastic work fine, but I strongly recommend non-tippy bowls!! I like this type that doesn’t tip for food: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Stainless-Steel-Dog-Bowl/dp/B01DOP5S9K/ref=sr_tnr_p_1_pet-supplies_1?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1480191967&sr=1-1&keywords=dog+dishes+metal
- IKEA Bowls and trays are also great!
- Basic Flat collar: If you purchased a puppy from us, your puppy will come with a small collar that fits for a short while. You can use that to help you measure and get a better one. I recommend a strong D ring and that does not have a quick release clasp. Some fun ones can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=puppy+collar&ref=nb_sb_noss_2
- Prong Collar for training. Not all dogs need these. It’s important to understand the purpose for all the different types of collars and at what ages to use them. If you aren’t familiar with this and need instruction, please don’t hesitate to ask! Here’s a link on Amazon
- Dog Tags: Many people like to have a puppy tag with their pup’s name on it as well as their city license number and/or rabies number and contact number.
- 6’ durable leash
- Cable Leash: Do not allow any chewing of leashes! If you have a pup that will be on a leash for a longer period (like camping) I recommend a cable leash!
- You might find a Leash Stake useful if you don’t have anything to attach the leash to (Outside or camping, etc
- Pups need something acceptable to chew on and play with! I recommend toys that are durable that won’t be destroyed after they’ve chewed on them. KONG makes many choices of toys that they can enjoy. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=kong+toys&i=pets&ref=nb_sb_noss_1
- I love pawTree’s toy selection!! Check these out: https://pawtree.com/iloveguddogs/products/972
- Here’s a KONG toy that flips and bounces as they play. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0858MCCJ5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
- I love this Hide and Squeak squirrel activity! The dogs instinctively know what to do. Not recommended for the dog that shreds any stuffed toy. https://www.amazon.com/Squirrel-Interactive-Puzzle-Outward-Hound/dp/B000NV8940/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=squirrel+stuffed+dog+toy&qid=1612672434&sr=8-1
- Look for rawhides or bones that are safe for puppies. Many people like bully sticks as well. I recommend bones or hides that don’t leave a mess on the floor and that don’t stink. These are EXCELLENT for their teeth and gums and also help with their breath. Bully sticks can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/Patriot-Pet-6-Inch-Sticks-Natural/dp/B010CL176M/ref=sr_1_1?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1480191323&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=bully+sticks&psc=1
- Bones for Anxiety or Pain. pawTree has a new CBD bone that has raving reports of lessening pain or anxiety. https://pawtree.com/iloveguddogs/product/2335
- Slicker brushes are wonderful for poodles and doodles. Here’s a link: https://www.amazon.com/Safari-Self-Cleaning-Slicker-Brush-Large/dp/B000YIWVA0/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1480191652&sr=8-4&keywords=slicker+brush
- Shampoo & Conditioner-- I like to use shampoo that is sensitive. There are many good shampoos out there. I like to use:
- MINK SHEEN -- This has been known to help with their coat color. This is VERY SILKY and has a nice smell to it. Unfortunately it’s not on Prime. https://www.amazon.com/MinkSheen-Pet-Shampoo-128-oz/dp/B008FQ4P8E/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1538603016&sr=8-3&keywords=minksheen+pet+shampoo
- Top Performance Fresh Pet, which can also be purchased in bulk. https://www.amazon.com/Top-Performance-Fresh-Shampoo-17-Ounce/dp/B005N2EYAW/ref=sr_1_2?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1480191738&sr=1-2&keywords=top+performance+dog+shampoo
- Mane & Tail Shampoo & Conditioner -- This is a FANTASTIC detangler that works wonderfully if you want to keep your dog’s coat longer. It can be used on wet or dry hair.
- https://www.amazon.com/Straight-Arrow-PRODUCTS-013-543884-Grooming/dp/B0059KXRME/ref=sr_1_6?crid=247ZXA0X1OBEG&dchild=1&keywords=mane+and+tail+shampoo+and+conditioner&qid=1600198288&sprefix=mane+%2Caps%2C238&sr=8-6
- Scissors--Not required, your groomer may do all of this. But, having a good pair with dull points on the edge can come in handy if something gets stuck in their hair and you need to cut it out.
- Nail Clippers--Not required, your groomer may do this. You may want to have some good clippers on hand. Concrete is also a great nail file!! :-)
- Hair Clippers-Not required, your groomer will do this. But, if you decide to get into grooming yourself, I like these: (*you will also need a cooling spray and a good oil for oiling them)
- These are a wonderful pen that can be used in many ways. Inside or outside, camping, hanging out in the yard, etc. There are many types--some have a door and some don’t.
- Pet Gates can be SO helpful for the life of your dog! There are many choices for all different home types. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=pet+gate&ref=nb_sb_noss_2
- Food is Tricky! I’ve tried MANY dog foods over the years and I can honestly say that I am LOVING the food from pawTree. I feel safe feeding any of their food and don’t worry about my pups getting Diet-Related Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM). To learn more about this condition which is found to be directly related to the food the eat, read here: https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/health/diet-related-dilated-cardiomyopathy-in-dogs/
- pawTree Food: They poop less, their coats are beautiful and they LOVE the varieties and options! https://pawtree.com/iloveguddogs/products/983 If you aren’t sure, but want to try it first-- contact me and I can send you a GIFT CARD for your first purchase.
- pawPairings: These are a fun way to change up the dog’s food without having to entirely change their food and you know they’re getting what they need! https://pawtree.com/iloveguddogs/products/966
- Treats: I like to use kibble from their regular food as their treats until they are older. I don’t want pups to become picky eaters, introducing new treats too early can affect this. But, when I do get treats--I like to use meat and jerky treats, not fillers and junk! I don’t like colored additives in any of their food. I LOVE the Duck treats from here: https://pawtree.com/iloveguddogs/products/968
